Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program for African Students 2021

The University of Gondar invites applications for the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program for African Students in Ethiopia for the 2021/2022 academic session.

This scholarship is open only for nationals of Somalia, Djibouti, South Sudan and Eritrea. That is nationals with a Bachelor’s degree earned in the past 5 years from a recognized university at the time of application. Nationals should intend to be full-time graduate students of physiotherapy, nursing, sociology, psychology, law, public health, development and environmental management studies. Others include optometry or gender and development studies at the university.

Scholarships will be awarded on the basis of applicants’ academic ability, leadership potential, socioeconomic need and disability. This is because it adopts the approach of experiential learning and facilitates organizational attachments and summer-camps, among others.

The scholarship covers the costs of

  • tuition,
  • accommodation/boarding,
  • stipend and additional program-related expenses as well as
  • support and training programs on academic, financial literacy and social issues.

This is with the aim of developing capable and transformative leaders at grassroots and global levels.

Eligibility

Graduate scholarships (for September 2021) are open for Ethiopian applicants who have the minimum CGPA in an undergraduate program. The degree should be from a recognized higher educational institution.

Applicants will be considered based on:

  • visual, hearing or mobility disability
  • financial need
  • leadership and community giveback experience or potential

Graduate applicants must be in or applying to one of the following programs:

  • physiotherapy
  • nursing
  • sociology
  • psychology
  • law

Students from Somalia, Eritrea, South Sudan and Djibouti will be able to apply for a graduate scholarship.

How to Apply

To apply for the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program, please complete the online application form and submit; or download the application form. Complete all the information required, sign and scan it along with required documents and send it to [email protected]

Please note that applications submitted to other organizations (including the partners or state organizations) or after the deadline will not be considered for the award.

The following documents are required to be submitted with your application:

  • Copy of a medical paper signed by the Health/Hospital Board attesting to your disability type and degree. That is if you have ever been assessed by a medical professional;
  • Completed and signed Scholarship Application Form;
  • Detailed resume of academic, non‐academic and volunteer work;
  • Copy of all elementary, high school and university transcripts/student copy;
  • Two letters of recommendations from previous university and employer (if ever employed);
  • Copy of Ethiopian national and/or resident identification card or passport;
  • Testimonials regarding financial disadvantage (from Kebele/Woreda Administrator);
  • Letter from District Police Office regarding criminal record; and,
  • Testimonial about voluntary community giveback and leadership.

Deadline: The application opens on March 01, 2021, and closes on May 31, 2021.
