The Rhodes University in South Africa offers the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation Masters & Doctoral Scholarships in Histories of Institutions and Intellectual Histories in 2021
The focus of Dr Janeke Thumbran’s project is on the history of universities and university disciplines. The project investigates how the disciplines at Afrikaans universities produced knowledge for and upheld the premises of apartheid rule. MA and PhD candidates interested in university histories, intellectual history or any complementary areas of research (ie. projects related to historical trajectories of institutions and their intersection with race, ethnicity or gender on the African continent) are encouraged to apply.
